Solar is the moment to get off gas for good
Most houses that go solar still have a gas connection doing two jobs: heating the water and running the cooktop. Once you are generating your own power, both of those are worth moving across - and moving them means a hot water change, an appliance change, and a fair amount of electrical work behind the walls.
That is normally three separate trades, three separate quotes and three separate weeks of someone in your house. We do the whole lot ourselves: we can replace any current gas set-up, install what takes its place, do all of the electrical wiring involved, and supply full sign-off for every part of it.

Hot Water, Cooking, and the Wiring Behind Both
Coming off gas is almost always these three jobs in some combination. Which of them your property actually needs is settled at the free on-site assessment, not before it.
Hot water
A gas califont or gas-fired cylinder comes out and an electric cylinder goes in. You can have a standard element cylinder, or one of the newer heat pump hot water cylinders. We will talk through both at the assessment, along with where the cylinder can physically go and what circuit it needs.Cooking

A gas hob and an electric one are rarely a straight swap - the benchtop cut-out, the cabinetry below and the circuit feeding it all need checking first, which is exactly the sort of thing that derails a job when it is found on the day.Wiring and sign-off
Every one of those changes is electrical work, and some of it lands back at the switchboard. We do all of the wiring involved and supply full sign-off for what we install, so the certification is on file rather than something you have to chase afterwards.Done around the solar, so the house is disrupted once
This is the part that makes it worth doing together rather than later. We can arrange to do all of this in and around the same time as the solar is being installed - the same crew, planned as one job, with the switchboard work sequenced so it is opened up once instead of every few months.
It also means the decisions get made in the right order. Whether you want a heat pump hot water cylinder, whether the hob is going electric, and whether an EV charger is coming later all change how much load the house will pull and when it will pull it - which is information the person sizing your solar system should have in front of them, not find out about a year afterwards.
What we look at on the day
- What the gas is currently doing - hot water, cooking, or both
- Your switchboard, and whether it has room for what is being added
- Where a cylinder can physically go, and the run back to the board
- Whether the hob is a straight swap or a bench and cabinetry job as well
- What order the work should happen in around the solar install

What people ask about coming off gas
Can you do the gas removal at the same time as the solar?
Yes, and that is how we would rather do it. We can arrange to do all of this in and around the same time as the solar is being installed, so the house is disrupted once instead of three or four separate times.
What replaces gas hot water?
An electric hot water cylinder. You can have a standard one, or one of the newer heat pump hot water cylinders. Which suits you depends on how much hot water the household uses, where the cylinder can go and what your solar system is producing during the day - all of which we go through at the assessment.
What happens to the gas cooker or hob?
Old gas cookers and hobs come out and all-electric ones go in. We check the benchtop cut-out, the space below and the circuit feeding it before the day, because a gas hob and an electric one are not always the same size or the same load.
Do I get certification for the electrical work?
Yes. We do all of the electrical wiring involved and supply full sign-off for everything we install, so the paperwork exists and is correct.
Do I have to do all of it at once?
No. Some households do the lot in one go and some stage it. What we would say is that it is worth deciding what you eventually want before the solar is sized, because hot water, cooking and an EV all change how much power the house will use and when.
